New Revenue Streams for Bands - February 5, 2011

For bands looking for new/different revenue streams, having your music transcribed and selling the lead sheets is an option.  Check out the review from Copy Cat Music client Upstanding Youth:

We just posted the sheet music you did for us on our website and have already made some sales. Also, we sent out a news letter letting our fans know that we had the product available and that you did it with a link to your site.  We also linked you on our website www.upstandingyouth.com so other people interested in your services can find you.  You did a great job and we really appreciate it.

"This I Know" - February 1, 2011

On January 29th, 2011, a group of close friends joined me @ Red Studio to witness the first incarnation of my new piece "This I Know".

Invitations to the event:

For the past year I have been documenting my life in music. I've been workshopping new songs at open mic nights in brooklyn and

NYC. I have woven the songs together with stories to create a new piece/one woman show entitled "This I Know".

its a solo piece roughly defined as:

sheryl's life told through song and the stories behind said songs.

The themes of my piece include some of the larger issues of life - love,

separation, loss and passion as told through the prism of my experience.

Laughter and brevity enter too.

A little teaser: Some song titles MIGHT be

I Live In The Cracks and

Fuck You Song #1

this is an informal hang but the show starts @ 6:15p sharp.

it runs about 50 min. (no intermission)

Saturday Night Jan 29th 6:00 - show begins @ 6:15p SHARP

The Red Studio

113 E. 2nd St. (btwn 1st and A)

East Village ~ No Cover/ Wine Will Be Served

Inspired by the ideologies, of comedians Marc Maron and Louis Ck, to be unfiltered and real on stage  - I shared my life.

The show was, in short,  a dream realized.

Musicians On Call (MOC):

For the past year+ I have volunteered for Musicians On Call, a beautiful organization whose mission it is to bring live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients.  I sing and play guitar (solo) monthly at Rivington House in New York's Lower East Side. Rivington House is a skilled nursing home for those living with HIV/AIDS.

I often feel that what I take away from playing for patients is greater than what I give. Two weeks ago, I was playing at the bedside of a patient who suffers from dementia and can no longer speak. While I was playing, the patient began singing the lyrics to the song I was performing!? It was an incredible moment for me.

From Jan through June of this year, I worked full-time @ MOC as the Assistant to the Executive Director, Dr. Leslie Faerstein.  My primary role was as a support for Dr. Faerstein during the annual audit (a routine event for nonprofits) plus working on the annual concert/fundraising event. Im thrilled to announce, although tentatively and unofficially,  that 3 headliners have been booked, including John Mellencamp, Lady Antebellum and Chris Daughtry for an October Music Series to take place in New York City.

Although I have ended my full-time responsibilities with MOC to pursue music full-time, I will continue on as a volunteer. For more information about this amazing organization please visit: www.musiciansoncall.org

Live Music/Shows:

For the past 2+ years, I have been a member of Local Correspondents (LC), a collective of musicians based in Brooklyn, NY.  The LC hosts weekly open mic events which give songwriters the opportunity to play new songs and/or older ones in a supportive environment.

The LC also hosts an annual Music Festival. This years festival, which takes place from July 7-July 11 @ Bar 4 in Brooklyn, has received a ton of press coverage:

http://localcorrespondents.com/blog/press/

Several artists have had songs selected for LC Fest Compilation CDs.  I was selected and am included in CD #3 with a song from my EP Not An Ordinary Girl entitled "Home". For a free download:

 http://localcorrespondents.bandcamp.com/album/local-correspondents-2010-compilation-vol-3?permalink

I will kick off the last night of the festival performing 3 new songs with Clara Lofaro on Backing Vocals + Piano:

Bar 4

444 7th Avenue @ 15th Street

Park Slope, Brooklyn

Sunday July 11th

Eight PM - SHARP

Recordings:

(mark marshall recording)

I have just finished recording "I Live In The Cracks" with Producer/Multi-Instrumentalist and all around awesome guy, Mark Marshall.  Mark (a fellow Local Correspondents Kat) and I had a terrific time bringing this music to life and creating art. I am very proud of this recording and look forward to working together with Mark in the near future.

"I Live In The Cracks" can be heard in the music section of my website:  www.sherylcohen.com

(garageband recordings)

I have begun a new project entitled GarageBand Demos. (aka: sheryl's uber-basic home recording series).

The songs I am recording for the GarageBand Demo project are new, original songs. The demo versions serve to express the direction my songwriting is currently headed which is lyric driven, in the style of the classic singer/songwriter. I have chosen to release these songs simply to let them come to life and share some new ideas.

I plan to release a new recording every month. The first two recordings from this project, as well as lyrics, can be heard in the music section of my website: www.sherylcohen.com

Song Placements:

My recorded (properly recorded, not demos) original music is represented by several music libraries including: Pump Audio, WacBiz and Fourte Music.

Im thrilled to share that I have had recent music placements on Access Hollywood, Celebrity Access and Planet E.

My goal is to continue building my music catalogue and to continue with more and varied music placements.  (fingers crossed)  !!
